A carotid ultrasound is a painless scan that uses ultrasound to image the carotid arteries in the neck. It allows for the early detection of blockages caused by a build-up of fat, cholesterol and calcium, so that lifestyle changes and treatment can begin early. Early treatment reduces the risk of future cardiovascular event, including stroke.

02How It Works
A probe (transducer) is applied to the skin over the neck.
It emits sound waves that echo back to form images on a monitor.
The test is radiation free.
03Duration, Recovery & What To Expect
The scan takes around 30 to 60 minutes. It is completely painless with no downtime and you can leave immediately afterwards. Because it is radiation free, one may perform this scan serially to assess progression of atherosclerosis without the risk of radiation.
